In commemoration of the 2024 International Youth Day, the West African Youths Parliament (WAYP) has conferred the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, Engr. (Dr) Sule Ahmed Abdulaziz with the 'Icon of Good Leadership ' award.

Abdulaziz was conferred the honour on Monday August 12, 2024 alongside other notable personalities like the Honourable Minister of State, Environment and Sanitation, Hon. Bello Mohammed, Director General of National Information Technology Development Agency, Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi during a one day symposium held at the Merit House, Abuja.

The event organised by WAYP with the theme: "From Click to Progress" attracted young activists, government officials, representatives, civil society organizations, and other key figures dedicated to youth advocacy from across the West Africa region.    

Speaking after his bestowment, Engr. Abdulaziz who also doubles as the Chairman, West African Power Pool (WAPP) lauded the youths for their enthusiasm and commitment to the upliftment of the region. He said that as Chairman of WAPP, he'll continue to do his best to support and promote youth empowerment at the region.

The MD charged the youths to continue to work and support the leadership of their respective countries as the region strives to harness it potentials for greater economic development. He emphasized the need for collaboration among African countries to tackle the mirage of challenges facing the continent.

According to him, "I want to thank the West African Youths Parliament for this recognition and honour. I also congratulate my fellow awardees and charge them to see this as motivation to continue to invest in our young people. I'm very impressed with what I've seen here today; seeing youths across the region gather here to discuss the future of our region gladdens my heart because this effort aligns with what we're doing at WAPP. Our region needs economic integration and our happy that the young people are not only buying into the idea but working to enhance it. Please, keep up with the good work."

On his part, the representative of Ivory Coast, Hon. Ndilengar Nicodenze, who presented the award said that it was in recognition of his commitment to empowering young professionals and fostering innovation in the region. He said that "we're presenting you with this award after a vivid consideration and deliberation on your personality, passion for youths empowerment and contribution to West African sub-region".
