In line with the policy of President Muhammadu Buhari administration’s policy on incremental power, the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has again successfully energized a 330kV transmission line constructed by KEC six years ago, which could not be energized and 150MVA power transformer and associated 75MVR reactors yesterday at 4.15pm Nigeria time. TCN’s task team are now concentrating on completing the 60MVA which is expected to be completed in the next two weeks to enable Damaturu and its environs to get supply from the Substation. The Damaturu 330kV Substation project contract was awarded in 2006 but like Wudil 132kV Substation which was taken over from the contractor and completed about a month ago, TCN engineers took over the contract about three months back, completed and energized it on Wednesday, 13th September, 2018.

The Gombe-Damaturu 330kV Single Circuit transmission line was completed in 2013 but was neither terminated nor energized. TCN management constituted a committee headed by the General Manager Kaduna Region, Engr Alim to ensure quick and successful completion of the Gombe-Damaturu-Maiduguri 330kV Single Circuit line and Damaturu 330kV Substations at Damaturu and Maiduguri respectively. It took the leadership and patriotism of Engr Idris Alim the current General Manager Transmission, Kaduna Region and members of his task team for this to be achieved.

According to the statement issued by TCN General Manager Public Affairs Mrs. Ndidi Mbah, two towers on the Damaturu-Maiduguri 330kV transmission lines that were vandalized in 2015 are currently being stringed by a contractor. It is expected that the work will be completed in the next one week and Maiduguri 330/132/33kV Substation which has been completed will be energized. This will significantly improve the power supply of Maiduguri and environs. It will also improve the flexibility of supply to Biu and Dambua all in Borno State.

TCN noted that several projects are currently on-going in its network nationwide and re-affirmed its resolve to continue to pursue and implement the incremental power policy of the Federal Government by consistently investing in capacity expansion initiatives, through its Transmission Rehabilitation and Expansion Program. Lastly, TCN wishes to use this opportunity to thank the Honourable Minister of Power Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola for providing the needed leadership under which TCN has been achieving these laudable milestones.
